Why does it take longer to travel from mt st helens to olympia than to portland?
^ at below i want to find out WHY it takes longer, they look like they are the same distance compared to eachother on google maps

Checking the Mapquest site: - - - - - - Starting Location Cougar, WA Ending Location Olympia, WA Total Travel Estimate: 2 hours 4 minutes / 113.55 miles - - - - - - Starting Location Cougar, WA Ending Location Portland, OR Total Travel Estimate: 1 hour 15 minutes / 56.67 miles ========================================== According to Mapquest, it will actually require approximately 40 minutes less time to get from Cougar, Washington to Portland, Oregon than it will take to get to Olympia, Washington. About what is the best way to travel from Seattle, WA to Portland, OR - Drive, Coach (ShuttleExpress kinds) or Fly

What is the best way to travel from Seattle, WA to Portland, OR - Drive, Coach (ShuttleExpress kinds) or Fly?
It is work related travel, so expense is not an issue - rather it is convenience and practicality. I was thinking to just simply fly down but was wondering if that it is too stupid given I am in Redmond = so 45 min to airport - 60 min check in + 50 min flight - 30 min rental - 40 min drive to Beaverton OR, so is it sensible to just drive?

if you have time to spare you can always take the train. driving it's more fun when you have a friend to go with you. Flying is fastest if you have the money to spend otherwise driving takes about 2-3 hours, you can also stop at some scenic sights.

I would Drive. I lived in Olympia WA which is about half way between Seattle and Portland. It is a scenic ride and a lot of cool stops on the way. I would stop at the State Capital and take a quick tour if you have time it is right off I-5. You would want to start this drive at about 10 AM though or at 7 PM. Any other time of the day and traffic on I-5 is terrible. You will be in a traffice Jam other wise.

Taking the train is the best way to go, traffic on I-5 can get very hairy making the drive less than enjoyable and with airports these days that can get problematic in a hurry, Amtrak is cheap, fast and you can sit back and sleep or read. It's the best way all around.
