Answered at http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AhsnbDO76reKXa0zGOMat6Jd7hR.;_ylv=3?qid=20090529140007AAlxKLE Which Orange County do you mean? If California, the Amtrak schedule below says train 763 leaves Anaheim every day at 8:06 am, transfer in Los Angeles to the Coast Starlight with a 1 hour 20 minute connection time. It leaves 10:15 am and arrives in Portland at 3:40 pm the next day (midnight is near Sacramento) for a total trip of 32 hours, 34 minutes. There is no competition by other trains. Greyhound, auto, and airlines are the other choices. From Orange County, Florida, there is a routing through Tallahassee, then a line to Los Angeles. For Orange County, New York, Poughkeepsie has a station connecting to New York City, then take the Lake Shore Limited to Chicago, and the Empire Builder to Portland. For Orange County, Texas: From Beaumont Texas, take the Sunset Limited to Los Angeles.

If you're talking about the fog signal character, some sources say it's a 13.5-13.6 second blast every 30 seconds and it has a range of 3 miles. According to the Trinity House web site, it's only a 3.5 second blast every 30 seconds

About how far inland would a tsunami travel if it came on shore at Portland, Maine

How far inland would a tsunami travel if it came on shore at Portland, Maine?
If one were to approach New York City and Boston, how much farther up the coast would likely be affected and how many miles inland would the water travel before it subsided?

Answer 1 :
All tsunamis are different, so this question cannot be accurately answered. However, the wave itself would have an unfathomably small chance of exceeding 1 mile inland. Also, Tsunamis don't hit the northeast American coast, period. In order for this to happen, it would have to be a "mega Tsunami" triggered by a massive landslide from somewhere like Greenland.
Answer 2 :
How high is this wave? How fast is it moving? From where did it originate? We can't answer without more details.
Answer 3 :
You haven't given enough information for that to be figured out. It depends on how fast it is traveling, how large it is, what the frequency between waves are, etc.
Answer 4 :
It all depends on the size of the wave.
Answer 5 :
Varies entirely on the intensity of the Tsunami. The tsunami's damage would also vary based on what kind of terrain it hit. The best terrain is cliffs, because that might stop the tsunami from going further inland, or at least migitate it. Flatlands are the worst, because it will go on further inland. How effective urban terrain (skyscrapers, roads, homes, etc.) is at stopping a tidal wave, I don't want to out find the hard way (and neither do you, if you live along a coastal area like 70% of the human population).
Answer 6 :
Not very much, bout 1 mile, your safe

It's pretty easy to find answers to questions like this by using any of the flight booking sites. For example: http://www.expedia.com/default.asp Since there are no direct flights, the travel time depends on where you connect and how long the layover between flights is. The travel time is 13 hr 15 min with a connection in Amsterdam including a 1 hour layover.

The nearest town I can find to the Mt. St. Helens site is "Cougar, Washington". Checking the Mapquest site: - - - - - - Starting Location Cougar, WA Ending Location Olympia, WA Total Travel Estimate: 2 hours 4 minutes / 113.55 miles - - - - - - Starting Location Cougar, WA Ending Location Portland, OR Total Travel Estimate: 1 hour 15 minutes / 56.67 miles ========================================== According to Mapquest, it will actually require approximately 40 minutes less time to get from Cougar, Washington to Portland, Oregon than it will take to get to Olympia, Washington. I hope this is helpful.
